Addicted to Books: Reasons 1 - 7

This week, I'm going to share something in a slightly different way.  I came across an article titled "33 Reasons Why You’re Addicted to Books."  Instead on inundating you with all  33 reasons in one post, I am going to use the week to share a handful at a time.  So, here are the first seven reasons (quotes):

1.       “People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.” —Logan Pearsall Smith

2.       “You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read.” —James Baldwin

3.       “Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly — they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.” —Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

5.       “I don’t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.” —J.K. Rowling

Chilling Out

This summer when it got so hot, a woman in Missouri started putting bowls of ice out for the squirrels in her yard. This little guy was so grateful, he fell asleep cooling off on top of one.

I'm not a big squirrel fan but I thought this was interesting.  That is one tired little guy.  I know the heat can get to all of us, human or animal.  Though I have never really thought about the effects of soaring temperatures on rodents, dogs, yes, rodents, no.  No matter what, they are all God's creatures and we should probably consider how much the extreme heat effects them too.

Dog Rules

Hmmm...these seem to be the rules at my house.  How did this happen?  I must be one gullible doggie mama!  Lord have mercy.

Let's Go For a Ride

I'm sitting here thinking about the people who have gone in and out of my life.  Some stayed for a while, others only briefly.  And then there are those whom I hold near and dear to my heart, who have stuck the course and are there no matter what, and who will share the road of life with me until the engine dies, the tires go flat, and we simply run out of gas.  I love them dearly and can't wait to jump back into the car with them.  They make the journey worth every hill, or speed bump, or hole we barrel through.  Thank you for being you, for sticking with me, and loving me no matter what.

Say It Isn't So

James Garner was one of my favorite actors.  Movies like The Notebook and Murphy's Romance were among my favorites, as was the hit television series The Rockford Files.  It was sad to learn of his passing this past Saturday at the young age of 86.  He will sorely be missed.

Laundry Day

The last time I went on a field trip, three co-workers and I had to bubble wrap two pallets of five-gallon jugs for four hours!  Have a wonderful weekend whether your cleaning house, doing laundry, working, or out playing.  It's a beautiful summer day.  Enjoy it!

Question: Do You Know What Echeveria is?

It's a soft succulent flower that comes from Mexico and can get as large as a dinner plate. Also known as Mexican Hens and Chicks.

I thought maybe a little trivia today might be fun.  I love the colors this flower offers and wish I could grow it in my back yard.  Have you ever seen it?  It actually grows a big as a dinner plate?  Really?!!  I'd love to see that.  I'm going to go pack my bags!
