Original Weight
Just a little chuckle to get you through hump day. I don't think I even weighed seven pounds when I was born making my original weight that much more unrealistic!! That's okay, I'm healthier than I've probably ever been so all is good. My hope is that no matter what your current circumstance, you are happy in this very moment in your life.

He's Gone, A Novel by Deb Caletti
Book Summary:
The Sunday morning starts like any other, aside from the slight hangover. Dani Keller wakes up on her Seattle houseboat, a headache building behind her eyes from the wine she drank at a party the night before. But on this particular Sunday morning, she's surprised to see that her husband, Ian, is not home. As the hours pass, Dani fills her day with small things. But still, Ian does not return. Irritation shifts to worry, worry slides almost imperceptibly into panic. And then, like a relentless blackness, the terrible realization hits Dani: He's gone.
As the police work methodically through all the logical explanations--he's hurt, he's run off, he's been killed--Dani searches frantically for a clue as to whether Ian is in fact dead or alive. And, slowly, she unpacks their relationship, holding each moment up to the light: from its intense, adulterous beginning, to the grandeur of their new love, to the difficulties of forever. She examines all the sins she can--and cannot--remember. As the days pass, Dani will plumb the depths of her conscience, turning over and revealing the darkest of her secrets in order to discover the hard truth--about herself, her husband, and their lives together.
I recently finished reading this book and have to say it was moving as well as thought provoking. I wondered to myself if I were to wake up to an empty house, my husband having inexplicably vanished, what would I do? What would I think? Where would I go? Who would I talk to? How would I cope? Dani Keller took me on a journey that I could relate to. I can't say that I have or would make the same choices but hey, I'm walking in my own shoes, not another's.
It's a good read that moves quickly, actually, the entire book is told within a ten day time span. I wasn't sure what to expect when I reached the end and was certainly not disappointed. Deb Caletti told her story with raw emotion, grit, dirt, and direct yet naked candor. Though the story has concluded, it has taken root in my mind and I've had a tough time letting it go.

There Are Consequences...
A friend sent me this picture yesterday. I laughed and HAD to share it. Yes - be very, very careful around me. You never know when you might catch a glimpse of yourself between the pages of an upcoming novel. My goal is have the next one finished and hopefully on the market by the end of this year. Yes - I Can Do It!!!

Because of You
To all of you who have been in my life a very long time, for a specific reason, or a brief moment, I want to say thank you. You have enhanced my life, helped me to change my life, or pushed me onto a different path. Without you, I would not be where I am today. I hope that each of you have a life full of family, friendships, love and blessings.

A Little Boy Toy Humor...
As I am quickly approaching the end of my 40's, I had to laugh out loud at this. If you celebrate your 29th birthday for twenty years in a row, what age is inappropriate for that of a boy toy? Does anyone have an answer for that one? (To put things into perspective, I guess it's probably wrong to celebrate your 29th birthday the same year your oldest child turns 29.) Calgon, take me away! I will reevaluate this situation once I climb out of the bathtub. It may be a while though, so don't hold your breath.

Happy WW!
I plan to laugh out loud a lot today - I'm having lunch with my Mother! It's been a while since we have had a girls afternoon out and I'm so looking forward to it. Whether your Wednesday is wacky or anything but, enjoy it - it's the only Wednesday on the calendar this week!

Guilty Pleasures
Ah yes...one of mine: The Blacklist. All the underlying current and suspense drives me crazy! The best part is watching it with my mom. We text while watching. It's the best. We go crazy together.
Let's see, another guilty pleasure: Supernatural. We have all eight seasons on DVD. Those brothers get into more troubled situations than one can count. The outtakes are priceless. I can't wait for a hurricane to cross over Florida so we can hook up our generator and play them, one after another.
How about you? What might your guilty pleasures be? Care to share?

Today's Blessings
On the heels of Easter, this is a good reminder. Let's see if we can keep it going throughout the year - one day, one hour, one minute at a time.

"Thank You," is Not Enough...
He came to pay a debt he did not owe,
because we owed a debt we could not pay.
Before dawning those pretty new dresses and suits, hiding the eggs, and cooking a big family dinner, take a moment to think about the words above. Think about the price that Christ paid to save us all. May you be blessed with grace, peace, and love this Easter.

Sparking Young Minds
As a child who loved stories, those read to me and reading them myself, I found a love for the written word that has stuck with me throughout my life. I have already started gathering books for my grandchildren - those they will grow into and hopefully appreciate. I want them to be excited about the words, the stories they build, and the imaginations they fill. They don't have to love writing the way I do, but I want them to love reading as much as I did when I was young, and still do. It's one gift this mother and grandmother has to offer that can make a big difference in their lives.

Mudbound by Hillary Jordan
In Jordan's prize-winning debut, prejudice takes many forms, both subtle and brutal. It is 1946, and city-bred Laura McAllan is trying to raise her children on her husband's Mississippi Delta farm-a place she finds foreign and frightening. In the midst of the family's struggles, two young men return from the war to work the land. Jamie McAllan, Laura's brother-in-law, is everything her husband is not-charming, handsome, and haunted by his memories of combat. Ronsel Jackson, eldest son of the black sharecroppers who live on the McAllan farm, has come home with the shine of a war hero. But no matter his bravery in defense of his country, he is still considered less than a man in the Jim Crow South. It is the unlikely friendship of these brothers-in-arms that drives this powerful novel to its inexorable conclusion.
The men and women of each family relate their versions of events and we are drawn into their lives as they become players in a tragedy on the grandest scale. As Kingsolver says of Hillary Jordan, "Her characters walked straight out of 1940s Mississippi and into the part of my brain where sympathy and anger and love reside, leaving my heart racing. They are with me still."
Mudbound is the next read for the book club. We've heard it's a great book so pick up a copy and join us in May for a brief discussion.

A Perfect Start to the Day!
I wake up to something like this every morning. Two sets of big brown eyes staring at me, just waiting for me to move, or smile, or say "Good Morning." I would not trade my pup-pups for anything. They keep me sane in a world gone crazy. No - no pressure. Just lots and lots of love. Catch ya later - I'm going to roll over and snuggle with my little guys for just a little longer!

Preparing for Easter
I saw someone on Facebook had complained about this picture, citing that dogs and egg laying rabbits have no part of Easter. I thought the comment was quite sad.
Yes, Easter is the most important day of the year for Christians. The whole 40-day Lent period is an important time for Christians. The resurrection of Christ from the grave leaves each of us on our knees, redeemed and forgiven.
Why is it so wrong to celebrate with new dresses and suits and Easter baskets? To locate hidden colored eggs left behind by a fabled egg laying rabbit? Are we all expected to get up in the dark of night to attend a beautiful sunrise service just to leave our thankful celebration at the alter? My family has always had a beautiful gathering with food and fellowship. We hide eggs for the kids and fill Easter baskets with goodies. We have not forgotten the reason this day is important; we are celebrating the gift of it with those we love. I believe this more is important than snubbing a cartoon character and his basket of colorful eggs. We are not perfect but because of the life, death and resurrection of Christ, we are saved and we are loved. Rabbits or no rabbits, it doesn't get any better than that.

Ahhh...Friday
I am proud of the man and husband you've become. You make me proud to be your sister. I love you - even though once upon a time you beat the legs off my Baby Tender Love doll with a baseball bat! (I know I couldn't have had anything to do with that!) Now that I'm over the trauma, the memory makes me laugh. You are one in a zillion and I wouldn't want my brother to be anyone else but you! Happy belated National Siblings Day!

Only You Are Responsible
It's so easy to place blame everywhere except where it truly belongs. When you finally realize the truth of the words above, you can stand up and own up to the outcomes of your decisions. All of them - good and bad. Once you can do this, life changes. You become more aware of your actions and hopefully strive to make better decisions. We all have room for improvement.

Ego vs. Spirit
I've waited not-so-patiently for everything to fall into place but have yet to find peace that way so I'm working on peace, daily, so that everything will fall into place as the Spirit says. The hardest part of that...giving up control - my control over my life. The thing that stands out is that I'm really not in control. The harder I work, the more things get away from me. It's time for a change. Spirit - take it away. I'm ready.

Letter Writing Skills
Snoopy needs to work a little harder on his writing skills. Women want (scratch that), women need details. We like details. We thrive on details. We must have details! We don't want the straight link between A and Z. We want the curvy, hilly, bumpy moment-to-moment screen play to build that visual picture in our minds. You can call us picky if you want to, but when you deliver correctly, you will be rewarded...and those visual details will definitely be documented, filed away, and remembered another day!

What Can I Say to Myself?
Need a little self-motivation? This chart will give it to you. I am usually an upbeat person but I have caught myself pulling lines from the "Instead Of" column more often than I'd like. My goal is to try changing "My Thinking" to the alternatives above. I'm sure all of us can use a little encouragement for motivation from time to time. Are you with me?

Book Nook
I love this! I have two walk-in closets in my bedroom...I wonder if my husband would allow me to build this nook into one of them?! Probably not (more because he would never see me than the work it would take for the make-over). I do have an office with two full bookshelves but this nook is really interesting. Hmmm, I'm going to have to work on this one!

This Isn't Going to End Well...
Maybe not this particular situation, but I've definitely been in some that I knew were ultimately not going to end well. Somehow though, even in those more painful situations, I've always made it through and come out a better and stronger person because of it. Whenever you feel you're facing the mouse trap, leave the cheese and walk away. Tomorrow is another day.

Swimsuit Season...
...is just around the corner! Please Lord, tell me I don't look like this - the one on the right!!! (It's also a good reminder as to why you should never get a tattoo or wear a thong!)
Now...stop laughing and get to work!
