No Shame in the Game

A big thank you to the Kansas City Royals for taking us through the playoff's and into the World Series.  It was a great season, an awesome post season, and even though we didn't walk away with the crown of baseball, it was one heck of ride.  Thanks again!  We are proud of you all.

Human Mind Tricks

Yes, food is a perfect distraction and not just for pets.
For the right treat, I could just about forgive anything!
How about you - do you have a fond weakness for food?!

The Probem is...

Nothing on your phone is more important than the person or persons sitting beside you.  We need relationships with one another now more than ever as the digital age is stripping us from our humanity.  I would rather be human and throw away the phone than be isolated and alone because of it.  I truly worry about the generations following in my footsteps.  They are missing out on so much.

Embracing Life's Lessons

No one is perfect.  We all have baggage.  The only thing that matters is what you do with the lesson's life has taught you.  Will your future be better than you could even imagine?  I hope so, for you, for me, for all of us who struggle daily to stay positive and learn from our mistakes.

29 Years is Long Enough!

Come on Boys in Blue!
Kansas City is long overdue for the big win.
We know you can do it!
Go Royals!

Dog Days of Summer

This happens on our walks...Biscuit is the pee-ee and Blu is the peed-on (usually on his little head - which is the smallest part of his body)!

Happy Monday!  Have a great day.

Halloween Pet Costumes

1)  Look at this face!
2)  Do you dress your pets on Halloween?
3)  If not, will you consider it now?!

I have never dressed a pet before other than putting a sweatshirt on them when we're on a road trip and it's chilly outside.   When they are used to the Florida climate and it's snowing when we arrive in Kansas, the boys need a little extra warmth.  However, after seeing this picture, they may end up with more than just hooded sweatshirts!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

The next book club pick:

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will.

Appearing in paperback for the first time—with twenty arresting new photos and an extensive Q&A with the author—Unbroken is an unforgettable testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit, brought vividly to life by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand.

Pick up a copy and join the book club this month.  We'll discuss it on Wednesday, November 12th.

Full Moon

There was a lunar eclipse last night, or early this morning anyway.  This comic strip reminded me of it this evening.  (I totally missed it this morning.)  It took some time to shut down my brain last night when I climbed into bed.  I have a new plot running a muck in there.  I have been working at lot lately but the hiatus I've taken from writing has begun to scream at me...loudly.  I am happy to say that I have started working on a new story.  So full moon or not, work or not, I am diving in!  Yes!!!!

The Power of a Good Book

Those are the books I love to read.  If it doesn't remove me from my basic existence, then I struggle with reading it.  I want to get lost in the characters and scenes created especially for them.  To be transported anywhere but I am.  To me, that is a sign of a skilled writer who truly knows their craft.

Best Selling Author!

Amen!  Amen!

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Read the book, check.
Saw the movie, check.  (Thanks for being my date, Mom!)
Think it makes a great date movie (as it's being advertised), NOPE.

Holy moly.  There were some scenes in the movie that my brain will never be able to "un" see.  Poor Doogie Howser!!!  I want to say that it's a terrible book but when something grabs my attention, makes my heart race, my discoveries of deduction keeps switching sides, there has to be something more substantial to it.  I may not have particularly liked the outcome but the ride getting there will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat!  If you haven't read it or seen it, do.  It's not one to miss.  (I definitely won't say the same thing about Fifty Shades of Gray.  That is one I'll definitely pass on.  Please note that my opinions on that book are strictly professional, not personal.)

An Edible Smile...

All you need is apple slices, the nut butter of your choice, and mini marshmallows for teeth and you've got yourself, friends, family, or co-workers, an edible smile!  Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Oh...it's NOT Friday yet, is it?  Sorry for my confusion.  I guess I'm still dancing from the Kansas City Chiefs win again the New England Patriots on Monday, and the Kansas City Royals wild card win against the Oakland A's on Tuesday.  That is way too much excitement in a 48 hour period!  Oh well, Happy Friday Eve!
