This, My Friends, is Cold

Nearly Frozen Waves on Nantucket

The record-setting winter of 2015 has left us with all kinds of remarkable images, most of them of snow and ice.  But a photographer on Nantucket found something most of us have never seen – nearly frozen waves.

Jonathan Nimerfroh was walking along a beach on the island recently when he saw these waves rolling in like slush.  The waves were semi-frozen because there was so much ice inside them. He took several pictures and shared them with WBZ-TV CBS Boston) chief meteorologist Eric Fisher.

Wow!  Now hat is cold!

Home Sweet Home

This is something we all probably need to be reminded of now and again.  I know I do.  Wishing you all a very happy home.

23 Adult Truths

1. Sometimes I'll look at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind-of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day..

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Light than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

23. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

Ladies, stop laughing and enjoy your day!

Being Yourself

If only we could see ourselves as God see's us,
we would never have another ugly thought.
Be who you are and cherish every moment.

Somewhere...

Oh, yes.  And a bucket of cold Corona's sitting beside it!
I am wising for you,
an empty chair placed wherever it is you long to be.

I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes

Yes, this is my kind of Spider ID because I'm certainly not going to let it live long enough to consult a chart!  I wish snakes were as easy to squish and flush!

Spelling Errors

Yes, my fingers do their own thing sometimes and I end up with similar sentences.  Then you proof your writing (at least 30 times) and your brain interrupts your words they way they were intended and not the way they are!  Talk about frustrating (and urined)!

The Best of Me

"Everyone wanted to believe that endless love was possible. She'd believed in it once, too, back when she was eighteen."

In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

Now, twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything they thought they knew -- about Tuck, about themselves, and about the dreams they held dear -- was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past?
***
I watched this movie last night and bawled.  I am usually disappointed in the movie endings of Nicholas Sparks' books as they don't follow the same plot lines as his books.  However, I can say that I have not yet read this book - it is sitting on one of my office book shelves - so I can't compare the two...yet.  I honestly think I cried because I have been so far removed from my own writing that it affected me more than I thought possible.  To tap into emotion the way he does is a gift and I want so badly to dive back into my own craft but my current job is making that nearly impossible at this point.  I am working to change that and hope that one day soon, my words will begin filling pages once again.  It is a dream and a goal that I won't give up on.  When something in your life feels this important, give it everything you have!

Ugh...Snow

Snow is pretty.
I miss it for a few seconds.
Then, I'm over it.
And am thankful for the Florida sand!

Banned Books!!

Check out these titles:

What got them banned?  Check out the link below to learn more.  Personally, what are people thinking?  Don't they realize that when you "ban" something, it only makes people more interested in it?  I own half of these book already.  Don't think for a moment that my library won't hold them all by the year's end.  (How is that for Ms. Sassy Pants?!!)
